On the 23rd of April 2012 and on the day designated by UNESCO as the Day of the Book , I am delighted to tell you that the USA will be joining in with World Book Night Giveaway.

More Details Here

Commencing in December 2011 there will be a designated US website and 25 titles will be chosen by people like YOU - the books may overlap with some of the UK choices but it will be interesting to see how they differ.

This was a huge venture which started last year in the UK when over 25,000 books were given away. The 25 titles for 2012 were announced yesterday 23rd October and I'm so excited ...five of the books I put forward have made the chosen list...

Here they are

Here are my favourites, and the ones I put forward :

The Book Thief - Marcus Zusack
Rebecca - Daphne du Maurier
Room - Emma Donoghue
The Alchemist - Paul Coelho
Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I get the chance to distribute my favourite book to my community....it's really rewarding to be able to give books away....

I hope you find the time to take part - it's great fun.

Sassenach - glad to see that you obviously enjoyed The Book Thief by Marcus Zusack. It's one of my favourite novels and I'm glad to see that it has found an audience outside Australia. I'm just about to read Rebecca for the first time - am more confident that I'll enjoy it having seen your list!

The US books were posted today: http://www.us.worldbooknight.org/wbn201 ... l-30-books

Some good stuff there. I've read almost half of them (13 out of 30, I think).

I actually picked up The Book Thief today and wished I had time to read it.

There are some great choices here - I have read 8 out of the 30 and have added several more to my wishlist !!

Any one signing up to take part in distributing the books?
