A few comments on Chap 59 In Which Much is Revealed: In the flashback, John says that he intended to resign his commission and that he was not meant for an army life. That surprised me because John always seemed well-suited to his military life and it didn't seem likely that Hal would be pleased to have him leave the regiment. In fact, John was still sort of unofficially in the regiment in Echo (something about Hal not accepting his resignation, but just being sort of not active?). Did John really live at Helwater running the estate with Isobel and Willie (and Isobel's mother)? That's what it sounded like.
The paperweight! John receives it in Custom of the Army and has it in ABoSaA when Jamie comes to ask for a gemstone for Brianna's family to go through the stones. John gives up Hector's sapphire ring and keeps the paperweight with the sapphire from Jamie at Ardsmuir.
John says that the kiss in the flashback was the first and last time Jamie had voluntarily touched him before John gave him the miniature of William earlier that night. Having read Scottish Prisoner, that doesn't quite remain consistent (Jamie carried him from the duel, caught him when he nearly fell on the forest trail, put a hand on his shoulder at least once or twice. The kiss int eh flashback and the hug in the previous chapter may have been a bit more intimate, I suppose, but I suspect that's just a change that happened when DG was writing the Lord John (and now Jamie) books.
I thought there was one more thing, but I can't remember it now.

I remembered! I just love all the scenes with John having awkward but forthright discussions with the rather strong women in Jamie's family. Like this one and later ones with Claire at Fraser's Ridge and in Philadelphia and with Brianna at River Run.

He does not dismiss them, like some men, and obviously is intrigued by them. I find that endearing about John. It makes it so easy to like his character!

From Chapter 62, Abandawe: LAMP wrote: audiobooklover wrote: Hmmm. Now, I'm wondering if that's something we learn in Drums? I'm sure I've read it somewhere and you found something about it in a search, but if it's not in Voyager, it must come later? I'm baffled. Since it's so vague and related to the boys and gemstones, I think I'll leave it here even though it is a potential spoiler (maybe a real spoiler if any of us could actually remember it ). Yes, it's in Drums in the part where Claire is nursing Ian through the measles. Ian said it related to virgin boys and stones but he didn't know why Geilie wanted them. RE: Compuserve site: Can't remember where it was but one of the posters mentioned that "stones" is another word for testicles and that the testicles of virgin boys are supposed to have special properties. What these properties are and why Geilie might have wanted to use them for no-one knew (well, other than that Geilie was as nutty as a fruitcake)

Thanks LAMP and repoman for clarifying that. I knew I had read it but had no idea where if it wasn't at the end of Voyager.
