Happy Anniversary, Laura! And thanks for a great summary and the song lyrics!
Talk about steamy! I love how DG manages to pull off an incredibly hot sex scene... where no sex actually takes place! Boy, that Jamie Fraser has come a long way since being a virgin bridegroom. What a great combination of eroticism and humor... the comments about Claire's noises are hysterical.
I couldn't help cringing a bit during the scene, though -- I wanted to yell at Claire to stop letting him touch her until he gets rid of the lice!
Beautiful moments: I loved Jamie's claiming of Fergus. I loved Marsali's determination and courage in getting what she wants. I loved Claire's reaffirmation: "I want him".
Really, a terrific chapter (although, yes, I agree that it was maybe a little too easy for Jamie to become commander of a squad of soldiers, and yes, Marsali is a wee bit young to be marrying a 30-year-old!)

audiobooklover wrote: The one thing that bugs me about the chapter is yet another significant coincidence. I can accept that Jamie managed to insinuate himself into the French military somehow after meeting those kids. But, he was the captain of the squad that came to check out the shipwreck? Pretty convenient. And, why Captain Allessandro? I think I always assumed they were Spanish, despite Claire clearing saying that they are French like the Artemis' papers, because of that name.
I was wondering about this - it seemed way too easy for everything to work out like it did. This chapter moved the book out of the realm of "believable" for me and disrupted the flow of the book. Why does DG switch to Jamie's perspective for his brief time on the Porpoise but then neglect to mention anything about how he becomes Captain Allessandro? I felt a little bit like DG rushed us through this part.
