Do the books ever reveal who rescued him and why? I doubt Dougal would be behind the rescue as Jamie was a threat to his becoming laird.

Thanks!

But he would. He would lose the respect of his people if he didn't try to rescue his nephew.

That makes sense, Demetria.

Interesting that he did not choose to attempt rescue from Wentworth, citing it was too risky. Which it was likely more risky than FT William, but Dougal threw up his hands rather easily, IMO. Probably due to the prospect of getting both Claire and Lollybrock.

Overall, I find the Jamie/Dougal relationship intriguing.

Well I would think Murtaugh was probably at least one of the rescuers. I love that guy and the way he watches out for Jamie.

I agree Rae. Next to Jamie and Claire, Murtaugh is my favorite. What loyalty! Too bad there is not more of that in the world.

I love Murtagh. I also love Angus and Ruppert and hope they stick around for a while too. I wonder if they had anything to do with Jamie's rescue but that would probably mean Dougal and I think JJSmith might be right about Dougal. But, Jamie is his nephew and even the tension about the possibility of Jamie being Laird I think he would rather not have an outsider kill one his kin.

Just a thought.

I too love Murtagh. Still waters run deep, ha ha

Of all the characters, I feel we have the least amount of info on him. I would love his backstory. Perhaps DG will provide that in a future book.

That would be a great Bulge. It appears Murtaugh loved Jamie's mother Ellen but also there is a connection with him and Brian Fraser. Jamie refers to him as his "Godfather" but, since Murtaugh is a Fraser he and Jamie must be blood relatives also. ??

Diana has said that she will craft a "Bulge" book on Jamie's parents relationship, presumably that will include more of Murtagh's story. He is so protective of Jamie, and I think it's really coming out in the TV series, the way they are always communicating silently, and Murtagh is always moving close to Jamie so that he is always between any danger and Jamie. He's awesome...always got Jamie's back!

Oh that would be great to know more about all of the characters we have all fallen in love with. I agree PegB, you can see on is face how he felt about Ellen and what I thought was even sweeter was the way he was touching her brooch. You're right JJSmith, Still Waters do run deep.

I agree that Dougal is least likely to have rescued Jamie as we know, he previously attempted to kill Jamie, he does not want his rival as laird to have the opportunity to compete with him as to who will be Laird when Collum passes. I also think this played a part in his not wanting to rescue Jamie from Wentworth. At least this way, it takes culpability off of Dougal and he still gets his desired result, the death of Jamie.

I do think Murtagh probably helped rescue him from Ft. William, maybe Ian also. Rupert and Angus? Rupert is Dougal's top lieutenant, Dougal would not have approved it. Angus would, have had to have Dougal's okay, also. So,no, I don't think so.

Book Angus stayed with Colum pretty much constantly from what we know, so I don't think he would have been involved (he wouldn't have been traveling with Dougal).

I wonder about Willie? He's Column's but he does love Jamie although Angus would probably stop him and since they are all pretty much Dougal's it kind of leaves Murtagh, Ian and maybe Lallybroch men (?). I can't really think of anyone else. What about the men (boys really) that he was with when they ate grass - maybe not.
