You are absolutely right Yolie about the amazing stories. You mentioned retired soldiers, I have heard many stories about people who went through the Holocaust and survived or fled and had absolutely unbelievable narrow escapes, hiding, jumping from trains, surviving on absolutely no food and many other things, sometimes really having luck on their side. having heard these stories over the years I can believe almost anything that happened to T & A. We always say that not all the strong survived the Holocaust (after all 6 million were murdered) but anybody who survived the holocaust had to be very strong. The same applies to T & A who we know to have exceptionally strong characters.

No big deal, Yolie! I also get everything muddled...which is why I'm afraid to post sometimes. I think that I may give away a spoiler because I forgot which book is which in Outlander.
As for the two Red Cross people- I know I wouldn't want to put innocent people in jeopardy like that. At least give them a heads up before you jump out of the truck!
As for military men, my stepfather (whom I am very close to and feel like he's my real father) is retired navy. He's too young for WW2, but he's a Commander at an American Legion Post. Every time I get to Cape Cod, he takes me into the bar where I hang out with a bunch of retired military. You hear the craziest, saddest stories. I look at these men in awe who fought for our country, served our country, and I wonder how the heck they did what they're talking about. I'm amazed at the strength and capabilities one person can possess.

No problem Yolie. I've gotten people/details confused too. I think it happens to everyone which such long complex stories. But, that doesn't mean we love them any less.
