Charles John Huffam Dickens was born in Portsmouth, England on February 7th 1812, and died in Kent, England in 1870.
He is buried in Poet's Corner at Westminster Abbey in London. He is considered to be the greatest English writer of popular Victorian literature, and is responsible for creating some of the most memorable literary characters...

His novels aimed at the ordinary man and woman, meant that he enjoyed enormous popularity during his lifetime ,and he became a great advocate for education and reform. He published a large number of short stories, plays and several non fiction books, but his lasting legacy are his novels which are read over and over again, and have been translated into all the languages of the world.

Did everyone see Google's "Happy Birthday" to Charles Dickens?

My favorite C.D. novel: Tale of Two Cities.
It was the first novel I read of his. I love stories set in the French Revolution. And romantic sacrifice? Doesn't get better than this one. It was a short novel, but packed so much within it's pages.

Happy Birthday Charles Dickens!

Like Raelin, my favorite of his novels is A Tale of Two Cities. Loved in in junior high when I read it for school and again a few years ago when I listened to the audio version. What great and memorable first and last lines! :D
