Chapter 3 - some snippets of information you may find interesting Monte Carlo - During the time the book is set circa 1930 - Monte Carlo was a very fashionable resort for the idle rich and often featured in movies Find it here on WIKI Claridges - A hotel in London Herethe Conquest - refers to the Norman invasion of England by William the Conqueror in 1066. As a reward to his loyal Norman supporters William rewarded them land which he took from the English. Many ancient properties can trace their roots back to this time... Ethelred - King of England (978–1013 and 1014–1016) known as the Unready. "Unready" is a mistranslation of Old English unræd (meaning bad-counsel) —a twist on his name "Æthelred" (meaning noble-counsel). A better translation would be Redeless—without counsel (Rede). Sospel - is a small town not far from Monte Carlo on the Italian border WIKI here
