Chapter 3 - some snippets of information you may find interesting

Monte Carlo - During the time the book is set circa 1930 - Monte Carlo was a very fashionable resort for the idle rich and often featured in movies Find it here on WIKI

Claridges - A hotel in London Here

the Conquest - refers to the Norman invasion of England by William the Conqueror in 1066. As a reward to his loyal Norman supporters William rewarded them land which he took from the English. Many ancient properties can trace their roots back to this time...

Ethelred - King of England (978–1013 and 1014–1016) known as the Unready. "Unready" is a mistranslation of Old English unræd (meaning bad-counsel) —a twist on his name "Æthelred" (meaning noble-counsel). A better translation would be Redeless—without counsel (Rede).

Sospel - is a small town not far from Monte Carlo on the Italian border WIKI here

Chapter 7

Manderley is fictitious but is set somewhere in Cornwall in the South East of England. It's on the most beautiful coastline.

The inspiration for Manderley probably comes from "Menabilly" which was Daphne du Maurier's own home in Cornwall.
