I'm glad that you all gave this book a try - it is different and perhaps not something you would have chosen to read.
I like to bring something different to the feast !

Did she leave with Mac? I thought he had already left and she was leaving all alone. But, I did think she would be heading to where he said he'd be because I agree that they formed a bond.

The author leaves that part a bit ambiguous, but Mac and Mary were kindred spirits and would have most likely ventured together to the Yukon. It doesn't seem logical for them to head out separately, especially if they were both intending to leave that morning and Mary had no clue which way to travel. Perhaps that ending is wishful thinking on my part.

Sassanach, I am enjoying the BOTM series and am looking forward to Winter Ghosts, which would not have otherwise caught my eye. :thanks:

Actually, I like the idea that she'd be leaving with Mac. It makes me feel much better for them to be together than for a pregnant young woman to be riding out into the wilderness alone, even if she does think the Ridgerunner will be coming to find her. I'm going with this because it makes me feel somewhat better about the ending than I felt before. ;)

And, I agree with Lady Jayne: Thanks Sassenach for organizing the BOTM. :D :thanks:

:thanks: All - I hope I can discover some different and challenging books for 2011..

By the end of the story I really liked Mary - I thought she was feisty and quite fearless but underneath she had a real vulnerable shell.
At that time in history I guess there were lots of strong women like her - perhaps not quite as mad but just as sturdy and fearless..

tip toeing in... :Melissa: Hi ladies! I'm glad to see you have a healthy discussion moving along for this book! It is such a good one, but I've been reading it for a month+ and still have not finished it. Not because it hasn't captured my attention but rather because there are so many other things and little darlings that need my attention right now. What a great book though!!! Thank you Sassenach for your thoughtful book selections!

Merry Christmas to you all!

I really enjoyed this book! It took me a while to finish, but primarily because I didn't have time to read it. I've passed it along to two of my sisters and one friend. I'm so glad you pick out such great books, Sassenach!
