Well, some of us are old enough that we learned to read from clay tablets. So, all of "modern" literature was only available to us as adults.

I feel certain they had paper when you started to read - I mean Jamie and Claire had paper. If you are older than that, I want to see proof!!! repoman <--> raymond

I'm currently on the third book in the Into the Wilderness series. While I am enjoying it more than I thought I would, I find myself a bit more critical than I used to be while reading a series. I think it is The Outlander effect. I do believe it has ruined me for other books-but I shall push on! Raelin By the way, is there a thread that discusses, what exactly, draws each of us so fiercely to Outlander?? Raelin

Raelin Hmm..... I don't think so, strange as that sounds! Why not open a thread in the General Discussion Forum? *hint*hint* I'm curious to see everyone's responses!

I just finished The Night Strangers by Chris Bohjalian, and loved it. If you like your tales spooky and disturbing, give it a try!
I love how many of my fellow Outlander obsessives love some of my other loves! I'm a huge Harry Potter fan, really enjoyed the Twilight series, and this year read all of the Game of Thrones series (which was fantastic).
Earlier in the thread, someone mentioned the fact that HP and Twilight are both young adult series. I, for one (of many, I suspect), love young adult fiction. I've really read some great ones this year: 13 Reasons Why by Jay Ascher, Impossible by Nancy Werlin, Between You and Me (forget the author's name at the moment). The Book Thief is one of my all-time favorite books. And on the subject of YA, has anyone read Tamora Pierce? She's my 21-year-old daughter's favorite author, and I think I may need to read some of her stuff.
Hmmm, maybe we should have a separate thread for amazing young adult fiction? Or is there one already that I've missed so far?

Lisa, I just finished The Hunger Games series which is also young adult. I loved it along with Twilight and HP. I am starting to think that YA is wasted on the young!

I agree! I used to have to pretend that I was just reading YA novels to see what my daughter was up to. Now that she's no longer a teen, I need a new excuse! Seriously, I've read so many good ones lately. I think maybe I love how the emotions are all so new and accessible for the main characters. Harry Potter, of course, is just a masterpiece!

I read a decent amount of YA stuff too. There's some really good stuff there. Some of it is the same as what my son reads so we can discuss it at least a bit (he's not great at discussing books as yet, but I'm still trying!), but some of it is just because I've heard it's good. I've heard people say (or more likely read what people typed) that the only difference between some (good) YA and regular adult novels is a lack of explicit sex scenes. That may be true in at least some cases. I read and enjoyed 13 Reasons Why a couple of years ago. And, I've read The Book Thief (and Hunger Games, Harry Potter, Twilight, and more). Haven't read the others you mentioned, though. Too many books, too little time! Has anyone read Jackie Kessler? She posts occasionally on the Other Writers section of Charlaine Harris' site and I know I discussed Hunger Games and one or two other things with her, but I've never managed to fit in any of her books. I'd be interested in what you think if you have.
