I was just wondering if anyone reads Stephen King? His Dark Tower Series is incredible. Anyone ever read that? I read it about 6 months before I started reading Outlander. I do highly recommend it!

I don't think I've read anything by Stephen King since the late 80s *showing my age, here* I still remember a book of short stories that just knocked my socks off. Is the Dark Tower series towards his horror side or humanistic side?

Moons, I read it years ago. Great series. It is being made into a movie or series, I can't remember which.

I am right now listening to Under the Dome. I've read one or 2 others many years ago. But, honestly, I'm not so good with horror because it does bad things for my sleep, so I don't read a lot of King.

I've read lots of Stephen King, but only the first book in the Dark Tower series. I've thought about reading all of them, but for the last few years, at least, Twilight and the Outlander series have taken up most of my reading time!!

I read some Stephen King back in the early 90's (Hey Laura-showing my age too!). I know I read Desperation and something else...I did want to read more of his work but I never seemed to get to it. I heard they're making The Stand into a real movie on screen (remember they did the miniseries?). My big problem, like audiobooklover, is that I get scared easy too. I've never gotten into Twilight because of the blood. I read Anne Rice years ago in the 80's/90's and found her stuff was hard to read before bedtime. So, reading S. King might be quite a challenge for me!

The only Stephen King I've ever read is The Green Mile...I read it b4 it was made into the movie, and I loved it.
My daughter is a huge fan of his.

Oooh, The Stand was soooooo creepy. I loved the book and the miniseries. In fact, I can't even watch CSI New York without thinking about The Stand. "Shudder!" The main guy character played a main character in the Stand, remember? With Molly Ringwold as his love interest.

I do have to say, Stephen King's endings sometimes fall a bit flat.

Fav King books: Carrie and Bag of Bones -- Get the audio for BOB because it's read by King Himself. Carrie's audiobook is read by Sissy Spacek (so perfectly fitting!). The Girl who loved Tom Gordon is excellent, and that one's read by Anne Heche. And of course, the Shawshank Redemption - a short story, i believe it's found in a compilation book, but also on Audible too.

I have to say that I'm not in love with all of his stuff, but for the most part, I think he is brilliant. H really knows how to make a reader FEEL. I loved the Dark Tower series, b/c it was kind of like The Wizard of Oz in a parallel universe. SK has sort of an obsession with WoOz. It is al little creepy in parts, and but also funny in others, and you come to love the characters like in Outlander. I am going to re-read that series as soon as I read the first 10 books on my "to read" list for 2011 :0

I used to read him back in the 80's with Christine, Pet Semetary, The Stand, and I still have my first copy of Carrie - it's pretty tattered looking. I tried to read "Insomnia" when I was in my 20's and still living at home. I had such HORRIBLE nightmares that my mom actually took the book away from me and sold it in a yard sale lol... Haven't really had the guts to read anything else of his after that.

I am really surprised that King creeps everyone out so much. The Dark tower is sort of a Wizard of Oz in a parallel universe. King has a little obsession with the WoOz. If anyone is looking for another series that makes you love the characters, this is really a great one. I promise you won't be that creeped out. :worry:

I may try it after I'm done with this whole Outlander series. Although, I'm not a fan of Wizard of Oz. And I suppose I get creeped out because S. King is such a great writer and I just get creeped out. I just finished reading a part in the Fiery Cross where Claire performs an operation-actually there are a few of them-and I have a lot of trouble reading through without skimming because I can totally visualize everything she is writing and it is just gross.

I just finished Under the Dome! Good thing too. As I was getting to the last few hours (in total it was 34 hours 20 minutes) it was getting hard not to be able to continue even when I had other things to do (or not to peek at the end which is hard to do on audio ).

If Under the Dome isn't King's usual scare-me-silly stuff, I'll give it a try!
