For decades my favorite book was "Pride and Prejudice", and it was eclipsed by Outlander. However, recently I realized that I had never read Jane Eyre and so decided it was time. I was reluctant to read it, not being a fan generally of "Gothic" tales. However, i fell in love! I was enraptured with the voice of Jane Eyre, the powerful themes of early feminism, class rivalry, economic oppression, religious zeal, self righteousness, sin, love, morality, and passion. I am now obsessed. And I am particularly enraptured with Mr. Edward Fairfax Rochester. Anyone else have any thoughts about this book? Or the DVD version that was aired by BBC on Masterpiece Theatre, starring Toby Stephens? Oh my!!!!!

Jane Eyre was my first 'novel' love. After watching the BBC mini-series "Pride and Prejudice" I went searching for the book, but all that I could find was "Jane Eyre"---I was not disappointed. I fell in LOVE Mr. Rochester and Jane. It feels so good to voice that opinion as no one else that I know has read this book or has any desire to.
As for the BBC version, I haven't seen it. I'll have to see if I can get my hands on it. I've seen other renditions of 'Jane Eyre', but not one of them has lived up to my image of Mr. Rochester or Jane.

Sawney, youtube has a couple of versions of 'Jane', and I think the 2006 BBC production with Ruth Wilson and Toby Stephens is one of them. Not the same as a DVD, but it'll get you started. I just finished watching 'Wuthering Heights' on youtube - 1992 with Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche.
