It might be quite fun to have a year long Contemporary reading challenge - with a chapter by chapter read-along and analysis. Please post your thoughts, ideas of books to read -it can be one long book or several shorter books.... If enough folk are interested I would love some volunteers to move it forward -rather like we do for the Outlander chapter analysis... Please post your thoughts - we've plenty of time to have a good think about it.

Other ideas for a challenge could include aiming to read a set of number of books in the year- 50 - 100 maybe....

I am currently doing a 100 Book Challenge with another group + my daughter's suggestion of 26 books, one from each letter of the alphabet. It's been fun! I would certainly join in a reading challenge here!

I'm always in favor of a reading challenge of some sort. I think something like aim for 100 (or whatever - I'm over that already between regular books and audiobooks, but I'm happy to play along) is a bit simpler than chapter by chapter read alongs. I've never really tried the latter because I tend to go through books faster than that (I haven't even been re-kilting with the group since I only joined the site in the middle of Outlander and my TBR pile is so huge ). But, if we do the read-alongs, I will make an effort to join in. I get most books from the library, so I likely won't be able to read one chapter at a time and finish a book in time to return by the due date, but I can try to discuss each chapter even if I've already finished the book. Just let me know the plan!

I would love to join a book challenge. For the past few years, I have challenged myself to read 100 books per year. My TBR pile is still huge!

Here's a sort of vague idea to float. Not sure it's a good idea, but it occurred to me and maybe someone would have a good way to make it work if people like it. Or not. Several years ago, the summer reading program at our library involved having kids read books from different genres and we could do something like that. I actually read a pretty varied set of stuff, but maybe people who don't might like to try a book in each of several different categories? Something like: non-fiction, biography/memoir, classics, historical fiction, contemporary fiction, sci-fi, fantasy, paranormal/urban fantasy, mystery, romance, young adult. Of course, a lot of books, like, ahem, the Outlander books, don't fit neatly into a certain category, or cross genres and some of the categories kind of merge into one another, so I'm not sure how easy it would be to figure it out. But, you said to keep ideas coming, so here it is. FWIW

I like the idea of different genres. A few years ago, my coworkers were trying to get me to read the Twilight books and the Harry Potter books but I resisted, thinking they would be too juvenile for me. I finally gave in and loved them!! They are now among my favorites. If not for Twilight, I would never gone on to read paranormal fantasy and paranormal romance, much less horror. If not for Harry Potter, I would have never read Eragon or the Chronicles of Narnia. I just thought I was a bookaholic before! Now I am looking at all genres with an open mind, so bring it on.

Glad people like the idea. There might be some details to work out, but I'm sure that can all be managed if people want to do it. One other possibility is to have a challenge on the number of pages read, rather than number of books because, for example, reading one of the Outlander books is like reading 2 or 3 regular novels. I'm not sure I love the idea, to be honest, because I don't usually keep track of the number of pages. But, if we planned it as a challenge, I could start keeping track, so I thought I'd throw it out there.

There are so many amazing ideas, I am having a hard time endorsing one specific one!

I was thinking about this the other day too. Do we know what challenge starts tomorrow?
