Just getting into these books and have to say that I liked this book a little better than the earlier one in the series. It seems that Rhev isn't going to take the dopamine any more now that he has been outed, especially since Elhena keeps his emotions in check. The jig is up and everyone clearly knows who he is and Wrath has found a way for Rhev to be himself and a help to the Brotherhood at the same time.

The whole blindness thing was so symbolic. Wrath had to lose his sight completely to realize his true potential and the worth and importance of relying on his shellan. It is the thing that makes him accept his throne and the responsibilities that go with the position. The whole thing with his father's desk and chair was the final realization of his role.

I agree with you on this book being very enjoyable, Pauline. Even though there were multiple storylines, they all flowed together well. I liked Rehv in this book more than any of the others in the series, Ehlena truly brought out the best in him.
Wrath and Beth are my fave couple in the series, the way their relationship grew was great - rough changes, as you said, but with the two of them together, I think they'll be great and hope they do have young, someday. My fave line of his in this book was, "See, I'm trainable."

I really grew to love Rhev in his book, and was rooting for him and Elhena. I thought he was just a bad guy and then it turns out he's a real sweetheart.
I also began to see his sex appeal finally... Um yea major sex appeal
Wrath totally losing his sight was a little heartbreaking for me as he is such a favorite. I have always hoped that he would actually get the opposite somehow and regain full sight. O well, I'm not the author.

I can relate, Jamie4eaye, for the first time I found Rehvenge to actually be a likeable guy. Wrath's complete blindness was heartbreaking - the most poignant moment during his gradual loss of sight was that his last view was of Beth. :<3:

I wonder if J.R. Ward used his loss of sight as the final break from his fighting days, and beginning of his role as king alone? Would he have taken it with the single-minded purpose if he could still see well enough to fight?

I felt that Rhev would be taking the dopamine...that way his vision wouldn't be one dimensional and all in red. It is true that even though he takes dopamine, when he's w/Ehlena, his vampire side over powers the medication so that he can be eager to shuck the boxers w/out hesitation or cause for embarrassment. :thud: :thud: But in order to stay under cover when around other vamps who are not w/in the BDB circle, he still would require to take the dopamine.

After Zsadist, who's my fave BDB, Rehv is my fave. I've said it before, but oh, to have a 6½ foot tall, amethyst color eyed, sable coat wearing, cane carrying, mohawked, well dressed male as Rhev walking my way ~ Huge Sigh!!!
