LOVER ENSHRINEDby J.R. Ward Published by Signet Eclipse June 2008 Book six: Phury's Story In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there’s a deadly war raging between vampires and their slayers. And there exists a secret band of brothers like no other—six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. And now, a dutiful twin must choose between two lives... Fiercely loyal to the Black Dagger Brotherhood, Phury has sacrificed himself for the good of the race, becoming the male responsible for keeping the Brotherhood's bloodlines alive. As Primale of the Chosen, he is to father the sons and daughters who will ensure that the traditions of the race survive and that there are warriors to fight those who want all vampires extinguished. As his first mate, the Chosen Cormia wants to win not only his body but his heart for herself- she sees the emotionally scarred male behind all his noble responsibility. But while the war with the Lessening Society grows more grim, and tragedy looms over the Brotherhood's mansion, Phury must decide between duty and love. http://www.jrward.com

I am just finishing this book.. and its a tie with Butch's book for my least liked in the series. I miss the heat, I miss the smut.. and I miss the crazy interaction between the Brothers. I might have to read this one again because P and C's story got lost with everything else going on.. especially at the end with everything dealing with Lash. For me this was really a transition book, the introduction and development of JM, Blay and Quinn. Too much of them, not enough of Phury and Cormia.

I agree, Maggie. This was my least favorite. But having read them all, I can say there is a lot that is necessary for the rest of the story.

Although, Maggie, I would encourage a revamp of the book. I found myself focusing more on 'finding' Phury & Cormia's story. I was really annoyed w/the focus on the Lash stuff so that the first time I read it I was just trying to get through it. I think one of the reasons I don't count it as a fave is bc of Phury's addiction to Red Smoke. It was a tangible, very human weakness. Granted it was done bc he shouldered a lot of guilt and other issues w/stuff that happened w/his P's and w/Z, it was still a hard one to read. In addition, I think a better destinction could have been made between Phury's infatuation w/Bella and actual love/bonding w/Cormia. The story was kind of jagged w/that part of Phury's story. In the previous books, I felt more of a connection w/the Shellan's (or perhaps a better thought would be 'I wish it was me'!!; the other Shellan's had certain relatable qualities. W/Cormia ~ well, it's hard to relate to someone that's been in an etheral world of all white, were color's, flat screen TV's & Baby and Johnny were unknown! Although, I did enjoy the humor that was infused w/Lassiter. Introduced in Lover Unbound, in Love Enshrined, the sarcasm, banter and wit that was exchanged between the angel and the Brother's really grew and was priceless.

I would agree.. there is a lot of introductions that you need for the other books make sense. Its almost as if 2 books were squeezed into one. In the other books, the Brother/Shellan relationship was central.. you knew it was Rhage's or Z's book. Their storyline was central and other things happened in the background. Here, the Brother/Shellan story and the background story almost fight for the spotlight. I wanted more time with just P/C.. both exploring this new world.. after Phury comes out of his Red Smoke/self hatred haze, and she is finally free to explore. Where they both learn to really live.
I like JM/Blay/Qhuinn and see that the introduction of them had to be put somewhere so more Brothers are in the mix for future books. (From what I hear, Lover Avenged will have a few unforgettable scenes staring those 3 ) But, there is so much going on with them towards the end that the P/C story gets lost. Hmmm.. maybe when I read again, I will look for only the P/C parts and forget all the Lash/Lesser mess and JM/B/Q storylines. Although sometimes she switches characters in the middle of a chapter. Good idea though.. read what I want and forget the rest In the previous books, I felt more of a connection w/the Shellan's (or perhaps a better thought would be 'I wish it was me'!!; the other Shellan's had certain relatable qualities. W/Cormia ~ well, it's hard to relate to someone that's been in an etheral world of all white, were color's, flat screen TV's & Baby and Johnny were unknown! In the others, I have wanted to be them too.. ESPECIALLY Jane Which is why I couldn't really get into Butch's book. I didn't like Marissa and couldn't really relate. (most of the time I wanted to kick the both of them or take them to learn to communicate with eachother) And even though Cormia had just met Johnny and Baby.. she learned quickly from their lesson.. I just wish that scene would have gone a bit further.. .. Fritz!! Is it bad to admit I wanted more *ahem* scenes?

Though I totally could have imagined it, I thought I had read that Phury just didn't 'speak' to the WARDen to the level the other brothers did. Maybe that explains the mixing of so many story lines. Plus, Phury's story - his battle with addiction - can be very hard to some to read because it is such a human experience. However, I loved how Cormia rescued him from the ivy - the addiction overtaking him.

There is a beauty that JRW brings to her novels that perhaps most would not see ~ finding beauty w/dt's, beauty w/in the darkness of the lives of the BDB. Their world is quite dark, quite desparaging. Yet, the mansion they live in is truly spectacular. The true beauty of all the stories of the BDB is the relationships between the warriors and their shellrens. And although Thor is w/out Wellsie, they were mated for 200 years.

I agree chickie, but what I find more wondrous and beautiful is the relationships between the Brothers.

Yes, JM, the relationships between the brothers is @ the of all the books. That's what I like about Butch's story; what we learn about the relationship that builds between him and V. But w/Phury and Cormia's story, I think it gets a little muddled.

One of the joys of reading the BDB series is the sense of humor found in the books. I especially love the sense of humor Lassiter brings,
"Well, if it isn't Good King Wrath and his band of merry, merry, happy, happy".
It's probably bc Lassiter is so sarcastic! Actually, a lot of them are!

I know, I laugh out loud as I read the books. They are very sarcastic and I love it.
I am guessing and hoping that there is more about Lassiter in future books. He seems to fit right in, plus I want to know more about him!!!
