LOVER UNBOUNDby J.R. Ward Published by Signet Eclipse September 2007 Book Five: Vishous' Story In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there’s a deadly war raging between vampires and their slayers. And there exists a secret band of brothers like no other—six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Now, the cold heart of a cunning predator will be warmed against its will… Ruthless and brilliant, Vishous son of the Bloodletter possesses a destructive curse and a frightening ability to see the future. As a pretrans growing up in his father's war camp, he was tormented and abused. As a member of the Brotherhood, he has no interest in love or emotion, only the battle with the Lessening Society. But when a mortal injury puts him in the care of a human surgeon, Dr. Jane Whitcomb compels him to reveal his inner pain and taste true pleasure for the first time- until a destiny he didn't choose takes him into a future that cannot include her. http://www.jrward.com

I love me some Vishous. That man knows how to use a bathroom. If I have one complaint, I didn't care for the ending. However, I loved the rest.

I actually didn't mind the ending. I mean, she has to have different HEA's for each brother or they become the same book with different names. So I get it that she needed to do something new. And this way.. his hand which had always been a burden, now becomes the only way he can feel her. I like Jane.. she has such a sarcastic tone to her.. perfect match for V (well, and Butch really because those two come as a package deal.. you can't have one without the other). Jane sort of reminds me of Claire.. tough as nails when they need to be, not afraid to order large warrior men around, both doctors with inquisitive minds. And they both come out with these fantastic one-liners your not expecting.

Maggie - great comparison! I love Jane too actually and love her more with her appearances in each of the other books. And I do understand the need for differences but for some reason, imo, it was sort of too bizarre. If she can make herself solid when she wants to, why doesn't she always remain solid?

Just finished V. I loved the book thought it was one of the most interesting, but the whole ghost thing was a bit much. It left me feeling empty. I am hoping down the road that changes. Jane had said that she wanted to study the genetics of the vamp maybe her and V will find something. Does Jane live forever and can V feed from her???

Just thought of something, Manny lives in the same building as V, so I think we will see more of him. Also, there is something about that guy, I am thinking he is a vamp or sympath or something!!!

I believe the "Warden" had said Manny will be in the next book which focuses on Payne. He is definitely "brother" material.

I am a huge fan of the Black dagger brotherhood, the next book is called Lover Unleashed and its about Payne and Manny. I am curious how Vishous will deal with this.

I am sure V will deal, one way or the other. I just hope somehow/way Jane will be whole, not ghost like.

The quirky thing about Jane is she can be whole if she "thinks" about it or if someone touches her. I don't really care for her story resolution either but it is what it is unless JRW decides to change her status. She had said lots of people did not like Jane's outcome.

You know what bothered me the most, it felt empty, even on V's side, like she existed but not really. Hasn't V had enough of a nightmare life, without having a ghost wife???

I feel the same. It's too out there for me. She's there, but not there??? Kind-of hard to get my mind around this concept. I have to wonder, when V and Jane are being intimate, when the hadest thing would to do could be to 'think' about staying solid. How can they actually physically be together, intimately? The ending had too many ?'s left open for me. I know that in Lover Unleashed, JRW has insinuated that V let's Jane and Butch down terribly. Other than that, she's not giving any other hints. In her Guide and in interviews, JRW has said that V is the Brother that she has the most trouble w/. I believe she has said that it's a mutual dislike, or something like that. For her to write a book about someone that she has 'trouble' w/and to give him a 'vague' and iffy ending, I don't find surprising. I think there will be more to the story of V and Jane in Lover Unleashed.

But since V is one of your faves Joanne, would you be dissapointed if he 'let down' his mate, Jane and his BFF, Butch?
