The first in Deborah Harkness's All Souls Trilogy, this is a book about a book. It captured me right away and rises high above the crowded paranormal genre. ADOW is a great read for those of you who appreciate fine writing, literary allusion of classic works including not only fiction but alchemy and science and above all, a great love story.

Please join me in a discussion of this wonderful new series.

I'm reading it now! If only I could find more time to read. *sigh* May is always busy and this week is completely nuts. I've had almost no reading time, but I am enjoying it when I actually get to pick it up. :D

I think it's a great book and has lots to recommend it. I look forward to chatting about it when you finish.

I finished a couple of days ago and really enjoyed it. So many interesting things to look forward to in the next one too.

I love the Bishop house with a mind of its own.

This has received some mixed reviews in the UK - it's on my list of books to get, so I'm glad to hear that you all enjoyed it.

“Sassenach." He had called me that from the first; the Gaelic word for outlander, a stranger. An Englishman. First in jest, then in affection.”

I've discussed this with a few people at a different board and some have said that the characters seem a little flat. And, I suppose I can see that to some extent. They are certainly not Claire and Jamie, for example. But, there is a lot going on in the book (including set up for the rest of the trilogy), so I really enjoyed it, even if it isn't quite perfect.

I will add this to my reading list, following Winter Sea and Bluebells of Scotland. Will be back to discuss it.
